The North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos have proudly launched their Pride guernsey for season 7.
The Roos wore the new design during the Proud Round, in both the team’s home game against the Brisbane Lions at Arden Street Oval and again when the team travelled to Adelaide for AFLW Pride Round.
A collaborative design process was undertaken with players and staff to develop the latest Pride guernsey which features colours of the Progress Pride Flag.
Designed in 2018, the Progress Pride Flag includes the six colours of the rainbow flag to symbolise the LGBTIQA+ community. Marginalised LGBTIQA+ communities of colour are represented through black and brown stripes and the Transgender Pride Flag is represented through pink, light blue and white.
The various colours are embedded into the guernsey in an arrow design as a subtle reference to the Progress Pride Flag.
AFLW players Tess Craven, Sarah Wright, Emma King and Jasmine Garner officially launched the club’s Pride guernsey today ahead of this weekend’s home game where members and fans will celebrate Pride within a safe and welcoming environment.
“The word Pride, it means you have pride in yourself, in who you are, in who we are as a club. We’ve become a place for so many people who traditionally didn’t belong in football,” Kangaroos midfielder Tess Craven said.
“It’s a great honour to represent all those people who never got a chance to play football because of who they were."
“Footy has made me feel really included, I’ve felt like I’ve always been in a really safe place. In footy, you always feel welcomed no matter who you are, I’ve always felt like I could truly be myself.”
